I need help finding a replacement for EditArea editor. Can you guys suggest alternatives that are lightweight, can do CF highlight or easy to build highlighters, and plays nice with developers.

Enhancement Request, basically he might not know how to improve it any more as there is maybe no feedback for the product. But yeah 3 years since last released is a warning sign…

Something like what is used by Stackoverflow or WordPress would be good. I HATE this editor - this is one of the reasons why I'm switching over to WordPress.

The editor did NOT play nice with what I was trying to do wrt formatting and getting the formatting to stick.

@Lola – Are you talking about EditArea specifically, CKEditor, or both?

Thanks!

@Luis

What about CodeMirror? Or Ace?

And I think WordPress uses tinyEditor which is equivalent to ckEditor only less features.

Did you not like CKEditor either? You realize, you can switch to any editor of your choice, right?

Thanks!

Yes, CKEditor is what I meant. Problem with this is that it keeps overwriting formatting changes I make. Its just too finicky.

@Lola

Do you have an example of a case in which this happens? There might be tweaks that can be made to help alleviate the issues you’re experiencing.

Thanks!

Have to go with Joel, what sort of changes are you making that it keeps switching back on? If you use the icons to do the right thing, you should not actually have much of an issue.

But there is one thing that I haven’t raised yet that I have noticed lately. When I wrote an article I do the excerpt as the last thing, because I can spell check it and finalize it before copying the section that will be the excerpt. However copying it over adds some style and span tags from memory, which annoys the crap out of me.

And lola, the only thing it has issues with is code. But you need to use the grayed out looking code button that looks like it is disabled, to enter the code correctly so ckeditor will not keep changing of code on you.

But without you saying if I do this, it keeps changing to this or it adds that for no reason. Is not, sorry to say, good enough excuse to switch over to WordPress that really has an inferior editor to begin with. But each to their own, Luis does need input on what features would work and what would be best for ContentBox, so this is the place to ask and make suggestions…
