Just curious: why do frameworks use an xml config file?

Why not a cfm file,
because that is the language of the framework and it won't show up in a browser
if accessed?

The whole notion of portability between languages seems silly
because so very rare, and wouldn't take long to change anyway if first written
in cf. The idea that xml can be validated also seems silly; you know if you get
a cf error that it isn't valid and needs to be fixed too.

Is there another
reason you use it?
