Nesting Layouts

I have done a bit of digging and not really found anything that shows how.

Here is what I am looking at doing, with the concept of skinning I want a main layout that will give the definition of the pages layout. From here I would then like to change the content based on what is going on.

For example I would like a module to have a layout, that defines how the content will be displayed. But the module uses the main skin layout to define the look and feel. I am hoping that this type of approach be modular across skins rather than defining a new layout with duplicate information.

The best example I can come up with is where the header, footer doesn’t change across the site. But the module use navigation on say the right side, where as the main system might use the navigation on the left side.

Anyone have an ideas or best approaches to this? I am getting a brain drain on what is the best possible approach to this, taking into consideration that I need the modules to inherit the look and feel of the skin applied to the system over all.

That’s what I was thinking, but wasn’t 100% sure.

When is this blog app we keep hearing about going to be ready, and if its sometime off what’s the chances of helping you beta it?
