Sounds like you have full null support enabled on your server. Can you check that?
I am using the 4 beta! And I did check the NULL support and the scope settings which were references in older posts for the same error - both are ‘off’ or in the CFML compatible mode - and are the same as my workstation where the same code works.

Hmm, redownload it, because there is no “instance” reference in the latest ColdBox beta at that line.
