[ColdBox 7] Concerns About Dropping ACF 2021 Support

Hey Ortus team,

I noticed a recent commit on the development branch of the ColdBox repo labeled “no more adobe 2021”. I wanted to ask if there’s a strong reason behind this decision, especially since Adobe ColdFusion 2021 doesn’t officially reach end-of-support until November, 2025 (with extended support through November 2026).

I totally understand the desire to move forward and modernize, especially with BoxLang’s official release. But I imagine I’m not the only one still running ACF 2021 in production. Like many, I’m holding off on newer Adobe versions due to concerns about their future pricing model, and I plan to migrate when the time is right.

If possible, I’d like to throw in my vote for continued ACF 2021 support, at least until its official end-of-life. or perhaps make ColdBox 8 the milestone for dropping legacy compatibility. That would give folks like me a bit more time to plan and transition without being forced to choose between upgrading Adobe or losing framework updates.

Thanks for all the hard work you do. Just wanted to offer my perspective before anything becomes final.

Hi @DaveL

ColdBox 8 will not support Adobe 2021 in the sense that I won’t do any testing or run around for it.
ColdBox 7 LTS will continue to support Adobe 2021.

By the time 8 goes gold, 2021 might have already ended, so I don’t see any reason on why support it for ColdBox 8.

With that said, 7 LTS should last for 2 years, and that will continue to have 2021 support.
