I went through something similar. What I ended up doing, is bringing
some js in my login panel that actually tested for a prescence of a content div
that is usually there on logged in state. If that div is detected it basically
does a full window relocation. If it can't find it, well it means that the login
page is by itself.
There are many ways to do this, but I opted to use this
approach.
