And to answer your last question, yes you can do your example with the default route assuming that you actually have folders (packages) that match those aaa, bbb, etc names.
The routes are basically if you want to make stuff prettier, shorter, or give yourself a layer of flexibility on top of where the physical handlers and events are actually called.
